I launched a new series of essays today where I try to articulate how to think more clearly. Up until college, I didn’t have the best education, and even college was hit or miss. Most of what I have learned that is genuinely helpful, and marketable, I learned form the smart people around me, especially at my last couple of jobs where I have been lucky to be in the room with very smart folks. Feels like in my dotage, it’s worth trying to articulate those lessons.
It’s always a bit risky when you write something like a post on base rates because there are surely folks out there smarter than you who will call you out for misrepresenting the concepts, or failing to acknowledge this or that, but if I let fear of smart people get in the way of me doing things, I’d be pumping gas in my hometown. I have a year of these posts planned, hopefully they help someone, or at least help me in my ability to articulate these concepts.
